Peer Review: The Forensic Institute Research Network (FIRN)

Peer Review Procedure

  1. All articles, letters, short communications, and other material that could be regarded by readers as original should not have been published elsewhere.
    1. Submission by an author will imply that the author has read and accepted the Journal’s Copyright Policy.
    2. Exceptionally, non-original work may be published. For example conference proceedings where abstracts may have appeared in the conference information.
    3. Author(s) must advise the Editor-in Chief in writing where material has been submitted or published before.
    4. All material intended for publication will be submitted [hyperlink to (AA) Contact Us] (NOT POSSIBLE. WILL NEED TO BE AN EMAIL LINK SO DOCS CAN BE ATTACHED) in an approved electronic format (.doc or .pdf) to the FIRN department of The Forensic Institute.
  2. Articles that are within the scope of the journal and that are not rejected by the Editor-in-Chief or the Board will be reviewed by at least two reviewers
    1. The Editor-in-Chief will consult the Editorial Board regarding the appointment of suitable reviewers
    2. Authors are encouraged to suggest reviewers who are or are not suitable. The choice of reviewer is, however, at the discretion of the Board or their proxy.
    3. No author of a paper can be a reviewer for that paper.
    4. Reviewers will remain anonymous.
  3. Reviewers will be asked whether the manuscript is scientifically sound and coherent, whether it is of interest to the journal’s audience and whether the quality of writing is acceptable.
  4. Reviewers will be required to agree a reasonable turnaround time for their review.
  5. Reviewers may recommend
    1. acceptance
    2. acceptable with modification
    3. rejection with an invitation to resubmit
    4. rejection
  6. The reviewer’s comments may be made available to the author at the discretion of the reviewer. The reviewer will remain anonymous.
  7. Where there is substantive disagreement between the reviewers, or between the reviewers and the authors, the editor may make a decision or seek an opinion from other reviewer(s).
  8. When a paper is accepted,
    1. Only the approved finished paper will be published
    2. the author will be required to accept the Terms & Conditions of Copyright prior to publication
    3. the author will be advised of the citation information for their paper.
