The Forensic Institute has a wealth of expertise and experience in managing scientific services and facilities. Our service covers the entire life cycle of design, build, service and staff specification, recruitment, training, and career development. Our extensive expertise is drawn from across the world and includes public and private forensic science laboratories, individuals, and academic establishments. Quite simply, the Institute uses the world’s leading experts to provide one of the most comprehensive and high quality sources of forensic scientific, educational, and managerial expertise anywhere.

Personnel, training, and education

  • Planned staff training and continuing professional development programmes.
  • Recruited professional and support staff.
  • Designed job descriptions for the entire rage of scientific and support staff.
  • Planned and delivered training programmes from on-the-job training to university courses at degree and post-graduate level.
  • Access to a wide range of facilities including crime scene investigation training, laboratory analysis, and courtroom training.
  • Training programmes available on-line or on-site (client or ours).

Design

  • Designed laboratory facilities in pre-existing and new-build facilities including space and services for reception, administration and IT, storage, examination, and analysis.
  • Specified and purchased all types of forensic scientific equipment for operational and training laboratories.

Management

  • Developed models for national delivery of forensic science, forensic medicine, and forensic education.
  • Managed all aspects of scientific laboratory facilities with budgets of up to £10 million and up to 400 multi-disciplinary staff.
  • Developed workload management and performance measures.
  • Experience of public and private sector laboratory management.
  • Prepared and implemented tactical and strategic business plans and service delivery for forensic and other scientific laboratories.
  • Introduced quality systems, including Total Quality Management via the European Foundation for Quality Management model, and a ISO9000-compliant computerised quality management system. Experienced in most laboratory accreditation schemes.

Forensic Science

  • Involved at national level in the development of standards of professional practice in forensic science.
  • Delivered strategic consultancy plans and recommendations.
  • Designed and implemented policies and working practices including the structure and content of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Led projects on developing Best Practice in a number of forensic practices.
  • Introduced new quality schemes and proficiency testing.
  • Extensive involvement in, and management of, all aspects of the forensic process; from crime scene to court, including policing and scientific advice.
