The Forensic Institute is committed to improving the awareness of scientific issues and the use of science in the law. We provide a range of training and learning opportunities for the legal profession. Early Evening Seminar Series(click for details) These seminars are part of our wider education programmes that will enable lawyers to become better acquainted with the issues and challenges associated with science and medicine used in the court. Update seminars with the Law Society of Scotland The Forensic Institute and the Law Society of Scotland present, as part of the Law Society’s Update Series, a number of day seminars on forensic science and medicine. These events are intended to equip the practicing lawyer with the essential knowledge and contacts to enable them to handle the increasingly complex task of expert testimony. The seminars normally merit 6 CPD hours. Each event is chaired by a senior legal figure and has contributions from a number of technical experts and presentations from lawyers on recent case law in the relevant field. Notes are made available on-line after the event, and many speakers are happy to receive post-meeting enquiries from delegates to expand the information presented at the meeting. There are opportunities to discuss the presentations with presenters and other delegates immediately after the presentations and in panel discussions at the end of each session.
