Some believe that the presence of microscopic amounts of drug on banknotes can be used to make inferences about possible criminal activity such as the supply of controlled drugs.  Of course it is convenient and superficially appealing that finding an amount of drug 'higher than the average' should be considered evidence; but evidence of what?

We do not believe that any inferences are reliable and have succesfully challeged this type of evidence in a number of trials.
